Dr Hossain Islam | Practice Principal | Circumcision Doctor

Dr Islam has 35 years of experience as a family physician and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and a Fellow of the College of Rural and Remote Medicine.
He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in Bangladesh and moved to South Africa to further develop and enhance his medical skills. After this, Dr Islam relocated to Australia with his young family and worked in various rural and remote locations before starting his family medicine practice in Berwick.
Along the way, Dr Islam obtained his Diploma in Skin Cancer Medicine and routinely performs skin cancer checks and surgeries. In 2017, Dr Islam undertook training in circumcision and vasectomy at Pollock Clinics in Vancouver, Canada, under the renowned Dr Neil Pollock, MD.
Besides Eden Rise Family Clinic, he also looks after minor trauma, acute medicine, and nursing home residents in aged care facilities.
Dr Islam is also a supervisor to trainee General Practitioners and has supervised eight registrars to full completion in GP training.

Dr Shaheen Akhter | Practice Principal
MBBS FRACGP FACRRM
Dr Akhter has been a General Practitioner for over 35 years. She brings to the practice a wide array of experience in family medicine, geriatric medicines and chronic disease management. She is trained to perform PAP smears (now known as Cervical Screening Test CST) and is available for consult in women’s health. Dr Akhter specialises in chronic disease management and will be happy to plan and create a plan towards a healthier you.
She speaks English, as well as Bengali, Hindu and Urdu. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies and having good food and conversations with loved ones.

Dr Mahmud Ali | Circumcision Doctor
MBBS FRACGP FRCSI
Dr Ali joins as an Associate at Eden Rise Family Clinic and Gentle Procedures Clinic Melbourne, bringing vast experience in surgery and in general practice. After completing his medical degree, Dr Ali undertook specialist surgical training in Ireland and has been awarded as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.
Dr Ali moved to Australia, trained as a General Practitioner, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Dr Ali has continued to advance his surgical training and experience by combining his initial training as a general surgeon and the patented Pollock Technique from Vancouver, Canada to deliver excellent outcomes in circumcision.
Dr Ali is a specialist GP focusing on circumcision procedures and is available for consults in family medicine and circumcision.

Dr Maged Abdelbaki

Dr Abdelbaki (he prefers Dr Maged) is a General Practitioner for over 30 years. He brings to the practice a wealth of experience in men’s health, acute care, occupational health, and family medicine. He is fluent in English and Arabic.

Zachary Sum is a practising consultant pharmacist and is part of the business development team at Eden Rise Family Clinic and Gentle Procedures Clinic Melbourne. He focuses on complex ambulatory care medicines management and collaborates with doctors, nurses, and other allied healthcare coordinators in team care arrangements and management plans.
He was heavily involved with setting up various Government-supported COVID-19 vaccination campaigns and proactively reached out to the community during vaccine and medicines shortages. During the height of Melbourne’s strict COVID-19 lockdown and curfews, Zachary reached out to homebound patients and provided clinical assistance to ensure equitable healthcare for the community.
His current project involves assisting our senior specialist GPs in improving patient care and service delivery within the two clinics.
